Send a Message to Your Representative

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

Here's another tool you can use to easily write a letter to your representative. It was created by Energy Alternatives. It has a pre-written message, but you can edit the text to customize your message. You just fill out your name and address and it automatically addresses your message and sends it to the representative of your district.

What we need right now are representatives to co-sponsor the bill. The message urges them to do just that. Here's what the pre-written text says:

With Middle East instability driving prices on oil and gasoline once again to record highs, Americans demand an end to the monopoly that oil has had on our cars. I am writing to urge your immediate support for an Open Fuel Standard Act in 2011, to open up the market place to other fuels, in addition to gasoline. An Open Fuel Standard will ensure that Detroit will produce and sell Flexible Fuel vehicles capable of giving America a choice of fuels for our cars.

As a result of the revised Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS2) which Congress set in the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007, these fuels will be available in abundance in the years ahead (you can review an analysis at http://www.ea-21.org/EPAStudy.pdf). Consumers deserve to be able to choose for themselves whether to use gasoline or these alternative fuels for relief from high gasoline prices and in order to help America end our dependence on foreign oil.

Bipartisan legislation has been introduced by Congressman Shimkus and Congress Engel to enact such an Open Fuel Standard. We urge you to become a co-sponsor. It's time to put an end to partisan posturing and strike a blow for America’s Energy Independence, and an end to our subservience to the foreign producers of oil.
